It was an active week for Delaware members Robert Weintraub, Beverley and Lem Peters, Joann Mountain, Jerry and Carin Pascazio, Maureen Keeney, Nancy Dysart ,Matt Phillips, Cheryl Pulkowski, Darlene Herman, Sharon Herman and new member Laura K.
Hiker Leaders of the week are Robert Weintraub and Beverley Peters who lead hikes at Holts Landing, Prickly Pear trail, Trap Pond and Abbotts Mills. We all really appreciate you!
Beverley lead Sharon, Darlene, Cheryl, Joann, Maureen and Deb on a beautiful cool morning walk in the woods at Abbotts Mill . Monday Robert lead Nancy and Laura at Holts Landing for a easy walk on the trails.
Sunday Lem and Beverley, Deb and Matt launched kayaks at Oyster Rock Road and began paddling the 10 mile trip up the Broadkill River. There was some excitement when going under the bridge at Rte 1 when a police car chase ended when the person’s car flipped over and caught on fire. As we paddled along the smoke was billowing, police and emergency vehicles with sirens blaring were coming from every direction, police helicopter was circling. We later found out the suspect actually had jumped in the river…glad he did after we passed through! With all the excitement we inadvertently took a left turn and added 2 more miles to our trip. We were all very grateful to Carin and Jerry who shuttled Beverley and Lem’s car to meet us at the take out spot. After 5 hours of paddling against the wind we really enjoyed a beer and appetizers at Irish Eyes Pub!
Monday Robert lead a few of us on the Prickly Pear trail at Delaware Seashore State Park. It was a lovely morning with very few cyclists on the trail.
We have several east coast trips hiking and wine-ing in the planning stage for the fall so hope to see you on the trails.
Temps will be getting better so get outside and walk or hike just be sure to hydrate and use sun block!
